Gloucestershire Kitchen

A Kitchen for a fine 17th century house set in the Welsh marches.

We designed the whole space and made the furniture that fills it. It’s a big comfortable room with easy communication between cooking and eating areas. The materials are quartersawn Oak and Broughton Moor Slate, both profoundly English and perfectly suited to this ancient and dignified place. In the glazed sections the sandblasted borders to the glass panels provide a softening of the transition from hard, reflective glass to the softer tones of oak.

This is indeed a hard-working kitchen serving the needs of a large family and a busy entertaining life. The choice of appliances, from massive Wolf event oven to colossal Subzero fridge, with mainly German kit in between, was driven entirely by considerations of capacity and reliability.

Eaton Square Pied a Terre Kitchen

This small slice of Belgravia has been reimagined with a light touch. Cool, precise, linear, everything you need in a small space. Entirely built from man-made materials, the whole construction was designed to be as light and low key as possible. The main counter top is just 10 mm thick.

The artisanal quality of polished plaster walls offers a subtle contrast to the smooth unpunctuated surfaces of the kitchen, with the quilted maple breakfast bar providing a single flourish.

Berkshire Downs Kitchen

We worked in collaboration with Lisa Mitchell (formally of the Interior Style Studio, now Mitchell Rose Design) on the overall design and build project and Splinter Works on the kitchen design concept.

The kitchen exploited our capacities for complex, large scale curved work to the full. The units were made from oak whose expressive grain and spattering of tiny knots showed it was on the cusp of forming a burr. The wave of brown oak burr rolling through its curves is divided by pairs of custom bronze handles. The whole design was only made possible by our huge vacuum press and our ability to produce curved moulds with great accuracy.
